Women Gathering after Fires is based on previous Women Gathering projects WHGNE have conducted throughout the Hume region. Women Gathering (WG) began with this literature review, which is easy to read and we recommend you take the time to do so. Women Gathering – a literature review, · We ran workshops for women throughout the Hume region · We gave the women $500 · They went back to their community and ran a group, that was inclusive, and met for at least 6 times These are some quotes from the women and the group facilitators · “The group is invaluable, it helps me.” · “I’m in a safe supported space I don’t focus on my issues but on the art.” · “The greatest outcomes have been the friendship and achieving personal and group goals. It has been extremely valuable to the participants during this difficult summer.” · “There was one person who was close to full-on depression and I’d say we helped stave that off. I think we can get her through it.” Women Gathering after Fires (WGAF) is funded through Office of Women’s Policy with a grant from VBAF. The role of Community & Agency workers, who are already working with women affected by the 2009 fires, is to identify and encourage women to attend the workshops and to be a support where needed. Community women are invited to attend a 1-2 day workshop. They then may be eligible for funding to run a WG group in their own community. There will be a follow up feedback day after the groups have meet for a number of sessions. Other women affected by fires, including young women, are encouraged to participate in a WG group for fun, friendship and support. Please see the attached flyers for more information about the workshops, the funding criteria and how the funding will be managed. Please forward this information to any other workers who have contact with Victorian women affected by the summer of 2009 fires. Please feel free to call Julie Tyler, Health Promotion Manager at Women's Helath, Goulburn North East to discuss WGAF in your community.
